Our burger restaurant design near Ritan Park in Beijing aimed to capture the essence of the traditional hutongs, while avoiding direct use of their traditional materials. Instead, we focused on creating a space that was ideal for intimate conversations, while also welcoming groups of customers with a pleasant atmosphere. This was achieved through the incorporation of various design elements such as exposed brick walls, corrugated aluminum panels, soft lighting, a spacious layout, a centrally located bar, and humorous Chinese quotes on the walls. All of these design elements were carefully selected to create a friendly and welcoming ambiance.
To create this design, we conducted extensive research on traditional architecture in Beijing, and identified key elements that could be translated into the burger joint design. For instance, the exposed brick walls and corrugated aluminum panels were inspired by the traditional building materials used in hutongs, while the soft lighting and spacious layout were meant to evoke a sense of calm and relaxation. Additionally, the centrally located bar was designed to serve as a focal point and encourage interaction among customers.
The humorous Chinese quotes on the walls added a touch of local flavor and cultural identity to the design, while also serving as conversation starters among customers. Overall, our aim was to create a unique and authentic experience for customers that captured the spirit of traditional Beijing hutongs, while also providing a modern and comfortable atmosphere for them to enjoy their burgers.
