Located at the inner hutong neighbourhood in the heart of Beijing, the Beijing finest Burger joint required an expansion and a new face. Considering the location, LAYA had taken it as an opportunity to take cues from the atmospheric of the old Beijing Hutong.But how to rationlize this indescribable but comprehensible feeing and translate it into built form, and at the same time not be limited by the superficial understanding of the hutong life atmosphere, was one of the first questions that LAYA considered——
As a starting point, we tried to form a matrix of elements that can evoke a pleasant ambience, full of fun and relaxation that is relatable to the Hutong spirit. The approach is not to achieve a direct reproduction of "superfluous" materiality and objects into the interior,but to extract the essence of the life style of the hutong.
